Welcome to our September newsletter. Please do encourage friends and neighbours to sign up to our monthly newsletter, you can forward this email and they can sign up HERE
Every month we start the newsletter with a local, seasonal photo, would you like your photo to be featured as the ‘photo of the month’ ? Pop us an email with your photo attached as a jpeg (not too high res) and we will try and feature it.
Has everyone got that shiny shoes & new pencil case back to school feeling? I opened the back door this morning to see wisps of cloud in the bottom of the valley and feel a little nip in the air.
There is lots happening in the shop and cafe this month.
SHOP NEWS …….
Firstly a reminder Good Small Farms have joined Salt Bakehouse on a Tuesday morning from 10.30 -11.30 on the forecourt. Good Small Farms are based at Wick Street on the edge of Stroud and are growing organic seasonal produce regeneratively. Please do support them and come and buy your seasonal fruit and vegetables and beautiful bread and pastries on a Tuesday morning on the forecourt. Don’t forget to ask Good Small Farms about their fabulous grass fed Hereford Beef which is available from their freezer.
Did you know that the shop sells surplus fruit and veg for 50p a bag? If you have masses of apples, plums, courgettes or any other garden or allotment produce you would like to donate, drop it off in a box and the shop staff will happily bag it up and sell it. As a customer I love it when I spot these bags of local goodies available.
If you have picked up a bag of apples from the shop how about making a quick compote which is delicious as a pudding with custard or fabulous spooned over greek yoghurt for breakfast. Peel and core a bag of cooking apples, place in a saucepan with a splash of water, a glug of maple syrup or soft brown sugar to taste, a splash of vanilla extract, a big handful of sultanas and a teaspoon of cinnamon. cook until soft and collapsing. You can use this mixture for a pie or crumble, layer it with whipped cream and cold custard in a glass and top with toasted nuts as a quick dessert or have it for breakfast with yogurt or porridge. Cooked apples are great for gut health too!!
Have you travelled far and wide with your Amberley Shop and cafe reusable bag? Alisons went to Romania, mine went to France, but I think the one that has raced across the world to the furthest destination is the one Rosemary took to give to her friend in Japan, here are a few words from Rosemary…..
“Is this the furthest travelled Amberley shop bag? I took it to Tokyo, then in a loop to the city of Tsu, South of Nagoya, to give to my friend Hiroko. The photograph was taken in her traditional Japanese garden. I reckon that the bag has done 6,900 miles in total.”

a little note on parking……….
Parking on the forecourt is for blue badge holders only. We would ask you kindly not to park on the gravel or on the forecourt unless you are loading and unloading for the parish rooms or are a blue badge holder. School, playgroup, walkers and emergency vehicles all need to safely access the forecourt and they can’t do this if it is being used as a car park.
From Alison our volunteer co-ordinator…….
